LOS ANGELES, Sept. 8, 2016 -- Hillsides, a Los Angeles foster care charity, has named Donna Ford to a two-year term as the new chair of its board of directors. Ford has been a member of Hillsides board of directors for 11 years and served as Hillsides 2011 gala chair. She replaces Brent M. Mason, who remains on the board in an ex-officio position. She leads the board during a crucial time for Hillsides, which is wrapping up a $12 million capital campaign to renovate its aging Pasadena campus and just affiliated with another child welfare organization, Bienvenidos.

LOS ANGELES, August 19, 2016 – Hillsides, a Los Angeles foster care charity, has appointed Dan Braun as chief financial officer. Braun will oversee all agency business matters including banking, legal affairs, registrations and filings, tax returns, investments, compensation and benefits. He will supervise three departments: financial operations, information technology, and operations, and develop and maintain the fiscal business management of Hillsides Youth Moving On program for transition-aged youth and Hillsides therapeutic school, Hillsides Education Center.

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 19, 2016 – Hillsides, a foster care charity in Los Angeles, is offering free tutoring to students ages 4 – 14  at its Family Resource Centers located in Baldwin Park, Echo Park, and South Pasadena. Beginning the week of August 22, children will be offered after-school drop-in tutoring on a weekly basis. Tutors will be available to help students with homework, school projects, and individual reading instruction through Hillsides intensive reading program, Reading Rocks.

Hillsides has received $20,000 through the Los Angeles Times Family Fund, a McCormick Foundation Fund. The grant will support Hillsides children's library and the Reading Rocks program.  The Hillsides library creates a supportive, engaging environment for the 185 children who live and attend school on Hillsides campus each year.  It offers an array of learning activities, including visits by local authors and musicians, arts and crafts, and reading groups.

Youth participating in Hillsides Youth Moving On (YMO) program will now be better connected to the community through the generosity of the following donors: All Saints Church Pasadena, the Charitable Foundation, Lon V. Smith Foundation, Employees Charity Organization of Northrop Grumman, and Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern California. The charities funded a new eight-passenger van that will support the many community-based services YMO provides for its clients.
