LOS ANGELES, December 12, 2018 -- It is a busy holiday season for Hillsides, a Southern California mental health and foster care charity that has been located in Pasadena for more than 100 years. The charity just hosted its annual Guild dinner at the Parkway Grill in Pasadena. Some 140 guests enjoyed cocktails, appetizers, dinner and a holiday performance by the renowned Citrus Singers of Citrus College. The dinner was co-chaired by Guild members Donna De Mond and Patty McAllister. Hillsides President and Chief Executive Officer Joseph M. Costa welcomed the crowd, and The Reverend Canon Deacon Ed Sniecienski of the Episcopal Church of the Ascension gave the blessing for the evening.
The Hillsides Guild Holiday Celebration at the Parkway Grill is an annual event to kick off the holidays and raise awareness for Hillsides. The Guild raises funds for Hillsides and puts on activities for the children in residence on the Pasadena campus.
Hillsides is also in the middle of a Holiday Giving campaign to raise funds for the nearly 17,000 children, youth, and families Hillsides serves, many of them who cannot afford holiday meals or presents. In addition, the agency is running its annual Adopt-A-Family drive, where members of the community can “adopt” a family in need and provide the family with holiday gifts. This year, Hillsides is aiming to provide 100 families with a happy holidays.
Also look for a Hillsides toy collection box in your local Starbucks. Starbucks is carrying boxes in 55 of its store locations throughout the San Gabriel Valley. Customers are asked to drop off a new, unwrapped present until December 21st. Rusnak/Pasadena Audi in Old Town Pasadena is also collecting holiday toys for Hillsides. Customers and visitors are invited to drop off unwrapped toys in collection boxes on display in the Audi showroom from now until December 24.
Another generous company to Hillsides this year is Pasadena realtor, Eva Lin, and her team at Lin Realty Group. They donated 50 bikes to Hillsides so each child in residence could have one. Even more, they came on campus to build the bikes for the children. PMRG, a Pasadena property management company, has also shown overwhelming generosity, adopting 30 families in need for Hillsides annual Adopt-A-Family holiday program.
“Each year we are overwhelmed with the generosity of our community, and we can’t thank everyone enough,” said Hillsides President and Chief Executive Officer Joseph M. Costa. “It takes a village to help children and families heal from trauma, and providing families and children in need with holiday gifts and meals is a significant way of making our clients feel valued and cared for.”
