LOS ANGELES, CA, June 27, 2018 – Guests attended Hillsides’ ninth annual Farm to Table dinner held on Sunday, June 24, at the private Pasadena estate of Jim and Chelisa Vagim. Attendees were treated to local, farm-fresh cocktails and food in a park-like setting with a private lake and views of the San Gabriel Valley.
Claud Beltran, owner of Claud and Co. Catering and the Pasadena restaurant Bacchus’ Kitchen, served as chef for the evening, as he has for the last several years. The menu, influenced by this year’s Hawaiian theme, included teriyaki flat iron steak, grilled Mahi Mahi, vegetable fried rice with pineapple, and pineapple upside-down cake.
Guests were given the opportunity to donate to the summer wishes of the children living in Hillsides residential treatment program, raising nearly $8,000 for the children. They also heard from Amy Cousineau, Ph.D., Hillsides’ division chief of campus-based services, who spoke about how volunteers and donors help children heal from traumatic childhoods in the foster care system.
This annual event is for members of Hillsides young professional group, H100, and their guests. H100 was founded in 2009 to nurture a younger community base for Hillsides and to create the next generation of support. In 2017-2018, H100 supported Hillsides in many ways, including a $10,000 donation to the agency’s capital improvement project, 60-plus holiday gifts for the children, 20 birthday boxes for the children, and $2,000 in pool toys and towels. They also funded several outings for the children, including trips to Magic Mountain and Disneyland.
The Farm to Table committee consisted of H100 board member Holly Breckheimer, H100 chair Ava Herrera, and board member Nicola Wilkins-Miller. The event sponsors were Marisol Barrios, Jennifer Brian, Ricardo and Rory Olivarez, and the Van Buren family.
