LOS ANGELES, January 29, 2019 – Hillsides provided snowy fun for children who live in its residential treatment program. A local ice company delivered eight tons of snow to the Hillsides Pasadena campus, turning one of the parking lots into a winter wonderland. The children enjoyed snowball tosses, sledding, snowmen building contests, hot chocolate and treats.
“This is the first time we have ever had a Snow Day at Hillsides, and for some of the residents, the majority of whom are in foster care, it was the first time in their life they have played in the snow. It was such an incredible experience for the children,” said Hillsides Community Resources Director Laura Kelso.
The Starbucks Foundation supported the project, and nearly 20 Starbucks partners (employees) helped staff the event as part of the company’s 2019 National Day/Week of Service honoring Martin Luther King, Jr.
Hillsides Residential Treatment Services is a short-term residential therapeutic program offered in a safe and stable environment where children who cannot live at home, have suffered trauma, or have emotional and/or behavioral challenges can thrive.
