Hillsides Completes Successful Backpack Drive for New School Year
Employees from Tokio Marine Management in Pasadena donated 40 backpacks to Hillsides back-to-school drive.

(PASADENA, CA) Hillsides is pleased to announce that it collected 181 backpacks filled with school supplies for its back-to-school drive, meeting the needs of the children in Hillsides programs. The National Charity League Pasadena supplied 75 backpacks, the non-profit volunteer organization, Friends of Foster Children (FOFC), contributed 66 backpacks, and Tokio Marine Management of Pasadena contributed 40. In addition, the Pasadena-headquartered company Green Dot Corporation and the Los Angeles-based Kings Jewelry and Loan, Inc. donated school supplies.

“It is a good feeling to know that the children and youth of Hillsides, along with other children who receive our services, have been able to start the school year with the tools and supplies they need to succeed in school,” said Hillsides Director of Community Resources Laura Kelso.  “I am very thankful for all of these wonderful organizations that have partnered with us.”

Children who received the supplies participate in one of three Hillsides programs:  Family Resource Centers, which offer parenting classes, mental health supports, and other crucial resources for vulnerable children and families; Residential Treatment Services, which provide a safe and stable environment for children and youth who cannot live at home; and Youth Moving On, which provides youth formerly in foster care affordable housing and support services. Most of these students would likely go without school supplies if they were not provided by Hillsides.
