LOS ANGELES, November 17, 2017 – Hillsides young professional group, H100, gathered together on November 15 for its annual fall social at The Cellar: A Wine Library in Pasadena. The evening was a chance for members to mingle, introduce new guests to the group, and to answer the holiday wishes of teen who live at Hillsides’ residential treatment program. The guests provided for many of the holiday wishes, which included basics such as bedding as well as personalized gift requests.
Hillsides nursing supervisor, Kim Weleba, spoke during the event about the importance of giving to the teens over the holidays, noting that they, unlike younger children, are often overlooked.
“During the holidays it is unbelievable to them that someone like you would take the time and designate money toward a wish for them,” she told the crowd of some 60 guests. “I may be a nurse, but you are all therapists tonight because you are doing things that bring the children great joy.”
The H100 group, founded in 2009, raises money for the older children in Hillsides’ care. The Hillsides support group host three events a year, including a spring family event and a summer Farm to Table dinner. Led by president Ava Herrera, the H100 board members include David Hitchcock, treasurer; Katie Bolton, membership co-chair; Rory Olivarez, membership co-chair; Michele Van Buren, communications chair; Nicola Wilkins-Miller, social co-chair; Holly Breckheimer, social co-chair; Jennifer Brian, holiday giving co-chair; Alison Stewart, holiday giving co-chair; and Uyen-Uyen Vo, teen liaison, Valentine’s and Easter giving, and birthdays.
