LOS ANGELES, June 6, 2018 – Starbucks, Jersey Mike’s Subs, and PetSmart were among local businesses offering youth job opportunities at an employment and resource fair hosted by Hillsides, a Southern California foster care and child welfare charity. More than 100 youth attended the fair, which was put on by Hillsides’ Youth Moving On (YMO) program for youth transitioning from foster care to adulthood.
“Many youth left the fair with several job contacts and four were even offered jobs,” said Joshua Mathieu, Hillsides workforce development specialist. “Our Youth Moving On program has a robust workforce development program and partnerships with more than 20 local businesses, and we are excited to be able to expose even more youth to jobs through this fair.”
The fair also offered youth information and referrals from a variety of organizations, which included Anthem Blue Cross Medi-Cal, the Department of Rehabilitation, LA County Department of Human Resources, the Department of Public Social Services, and Pasadena City College.
The Employment and Resource Fair was held at the site of YMO’s transitional housing apartments in Pasadena. YMO offers a continuum of support services for transition-aged youth 16 – 25 that includes housing services, a drop-in Peer Resource Center, and workforce development.
