Alumni of USC give back to Hillsides during the USC Alumni Day of SCervice

LOS ANGELES, CA, March 13, 2019 -- For the sixth year in a row, an alumni support group of the University of Southern California, the Trojan Affiliates, organized an afternoon of art for the children who reside at Hillsides as part of the USC Alumni Day of SCervice.

The 2019 Day of SCervice was held on March 9. Thirteen volunteers oversaw a fun art activity where children created rainbows out of paper, stickers, and cotton balls in a day of “Building Rainbows & Creating Dreams.” The group also provided home-baked goodies and finger foods for the children.

“The children were very excited about this craft and produced some very colorful rainbows, some of which had inspirational quotes on them,” said Laura Kelso, Hillsides director of community resources. “We are very lucky that each year, the Trojan Affiliates select Hillsides to give back to.”

The yearly project is spearheaded by Trojan alumna Rosanne Berlen and her daughter Brianna. Both are realtors at Compass California.

The USC International Day of SCervice is a worldwide effort on behalf of Trojan alumni to give back to their respective communities by implementing and participating in select service projects. The Trojan Affiliates is an alumnae organization based in the San Gabriel Valley dedicated to developing fundraising projects to provide scholarships for deserving USC students and contributing to the advancement of education.

Hillsides Residential Treatment program is a short-term residential therapeutic program offered in a safe and stable environment where children who cannot live at home, have suffered trauma, or have emotional and/or behavioral challenges can thrive.
