In working to establish a youth’s career plan, a key piece of the planning process is highlighting the importance of education. YMO has broadened the definition of education to include academic and vocational training in an effort to meet youth where they are at. Once youth has identified a career path in one of the housing programs, he or she is encouraged to combine their work experience with a full or part-time education with the following incentives to ensure success:
- On-site specialized tutoring
- Living stipends up to $400 a month
- Scholarships for books and tuition
With these supports in place, youth gain an increased ability to complete college courses, secure better grades, save the bulk of their financial aid, and quickly earn certification in a trade or a college degree.
